AAOS Names New Chief Education Officer

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) has appointed learning expert Ellen Moore as its new chief education officer.

As a member of the executive team, Moore will lead the design, development, delivery, and financial management of the Academy’s educational programs to support the organization’s mission and vision.

“I was drawn to the Academy’s efforts to integrate technology into their educational offerings to meet the future needs of members,” said Moore. “The more we can offer educational content that is adaptive to the way that our members want to learn, the better. My goal is to make sure we are developing and delivering compelling education programs for our members by exploring their learning preferences and developing the necessary platforms to meet those needs. Our education programs are evolving just as our member practices are, and we are adapting to leverage new technologies and delivery options. Ultimately, we strive to provide excellent value for members and other stakeholders who interact with AAOS around the world.”

Throughout Moore’s career, she has held various senior leadership positions at organizations where she managed education and event business challenges. Her two most recent positions were vice president of strategic development at the Association for Corporate Growth and vice president of education and certification services at SmithBucklin Corporation. She also worked for Women’s Foodservice Forum and Krispy Kreme.

“Ellen has a track record of achieving growth and aligning an organization’s strategies to its long-range goals,” AAOS CEO Karen L. Hackett, C.A.E., F.A.C.H.E., said “Her many years of experience in not-for-profit and corporate sectors bring a unique blend of expertise to her new role with the Academy.”

Moore graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Denver – Daniels College of Business in Colorado.

“There is a constant learning curve in orthopaedics and I will work to ensure that the Academy’s educational programs continue to evolve with the various generations of our members and the profession,” Moore said.
